Did you know the largest breast-feeding support group in Kansas City meets at North Kansas City Hospital’s Northland Women’s Center? Moms attend a daytime group or an evening group (ideal for back-to-work mothers). Both groups are free. Lactation nurses give support to moms with questions about breast-feeding. They also check baby’s weight and conduct educational programs as requested. Leading the two support groups are the Hospital’s International Board Certified Lactation Consultants who are specialists in breastfeeding. To speak to a Lactation Consultant call, 816-691-5177.

New to the Hospital’s breastfeeding program is Petals, a boutique for mom and babies. The retail lactation store is one of a few in the Kansas City area. Based in the Northland Women’s Center, the store brings women the convenience of nursing supplies, bras and pump rental by appointment with guidance from a certified lactation consultant. To schedule an appointment, call 816-691-5177. The American Academy of Pediatrics recommends breastfeeding for at least six months and preferably a year following an infant’s birth.
